Festival

The Sony World Photography Awards is a week-long celebration of the photographic culture, history and image.

The City of Cannes provides the canvas for these celebrations offering visitors all the diversity, glamour and tranquil elegance the Cotes D’Azur has to offer.

Every year, for one week in April, the City of Cannes takes a step back from the moving image and celebrates the birth of film through the photographic medium.

Throughout the Palais des Festivals, along the famous Croisette, selected hotels, city landmarks, streets and beaches, will showcase dozens of unique photographic exhibitions, welcoming the residents and visitors of the Cotes D'Azur.

The week-long celebration will include screenings, retrospectives of renowned photographers, exhibitions, book signings, special events including 'Evenings with the Artists', exhibition tours led by the artists, after parties and of course the centrepiece event: The Sony World Photography Awards Ceremony, Cocktail Party and Gala Dinner, hosted at the Palais des Festivals.

For the photographic industry, there will be many tailored events. These will include talks, seminars, networking venues and events, an international student programme, exhibition tours, focus media events and discussions hosted by some of the world’s most renowned photographers, editors, publishers, gallery owners, curators and other industry experts.

The Festival is aimed for the general public and welcomes families, locals, foreign visitors and all those with a love for contemporary art, the still and moving images.

About Us

The World Photography Organisation (WPO) supports professional, amateur and student photography and lends a global platform for the photographic industry to communicate, converge and showcase current trends in Photojournalism, Fine Art and Commercial Photography.

The World Photography Organisation delivers various initiatives and programmes across the global photographic community under the "World Photography" brand. These programmes involve the amateur and professional photographer in commercial, cultural and educational activities within the photographic industry. Currently included within the World Photography portfolio are the World Photography Awards sponsored by Sony; the World Photography Student Focus Competition; the World Photography Awards Global Tour, the World Photography Collection and the World Photography Focus Programme.

The WPO’s aim is to support photographers whilst creating new avenues in which to develop the photographic practices within the industry, enabling photographers to have their work seen internationally, establish photography into new and less mature markets, introducing young talent to a world-wide public and photography audience, and provide various annual meeting grounds for a global industry to converge and facilitate exchange within the market.
